Stone Island announces the relocation of its Hong Kong store, introducing the brand retail concept in partnership with OMA/AMO in the city. Situated on Level 2 Gateway Arcade in Harbour City, one of Hong Kong’s premier shopping destinations, the 112 sqm store is designed to embody the brand’s core ethos of boundless research and experimentation with treatments and materials.
Conceived as an immersive experience, when viewed from the outside the design expresses a sense of openness and continuity, with no clear distinction between interior and exterior. A large transparent window, featuring a suspended circular cast-glass backdrop, reinforces this concept. Inside, a semi-circular corrugated metal capsule display wall serves a dual purpose: showcasing items and dividing the space to create a carpeted lounge area behind it.
A key element in the OMA/AMO-designed concept is the use of burnt, sand-blasted, and coated cork along the perimeter walls, which are also carved out to form display niches. Materials throughout the space — including Tyvek® ceilings and corrugated metal accents — underscore Stone Island’s commitment to material innovation.
Recurring through several Stone Island retail locations is the presence of multiple design contributions, co-existing together. The Hong Kong store integrates the custom lighting system and cabin stools by Tim Hooijmans, as well as lounge seats designed by Sergio Mannino, reinforcing the vision of a space for the Stone Island community to engage with the brand and its collaborative spirit.
