Celebrating 25 years of renowned Taiwanese picture book artist Jimmy Liao (幾米)! His beloved works have been adapted into films, musicals, and animations. With his tender gaze on city life, Jimmy has left a gentle imprint on countless readers’ hearts.
The official Hong Kong exhibition, “Jimmy Liao Brand 25th Anniversary Special Campaign – Serendipitous Glimmers”, is now at Gallery by the Harbour until 19 April 2026. Centered around the theme of “States of Life”, the exhibition is divided into three zones. Through layered storytelling with paintings, light, and sculptural installations, visitors are invited to step into Jimmy’s world and reflect on different life journeys.
Three Sections Reflect Life’s Stages — A Sensory Revival of Beloved Classics
The exhibition’s spatial design responds to three chapters of life: beginnings that bring the unexpected, which push us step by step into periods when we must support ourselves alone, until—at a certain moment—we finally glimpse our own direction in the serendipitous glimmer of a scene.
Each of the three zones employs different media to create a richly layered viewing experience — bas-reliefs give the paintings a tactile warmth, allowing visitors to feel the delicate strokes and emotions of Jimmy’s work up close; luminous night effects appear like the faint, fleeting lights of memory, quietly emerging from darkness to add a serene, affecting dimension to the pieces; and three-dimensional sculptures extend the images into space, accompanying visitors as they breathe and linger.
In this exhibition, visitors are no longer mere onlookers but the protagonists of the story, invited to compare the scenes on display with their own life situations and seek out personal emotional resonance. The exhibition also features a stamp-collecting activity, inviting visitors to piece together each moment that moves them into a unique, treasured memory and complete this shared journey.
