MERRY STREETMAS @Harbour City

24 Nov, 2022

The charity fundraising has been a long-standing Christmas tradition in Harbour City and has generated nearly 40-million Hong Kong Dollars for Hong Kong Blood Cancer Foundation (HKBCF) since 2002. This meaningful act of kindness continues this year! Harbour City launched the spectacular outdoor decoration to kick start the fundraising through an array of activities, workshops, and events last week.

To further elevate the spirit of festivities whilst giving back to the community, Harbour City is teaming up with the iconic TV series Sesame Street to spread holiday joy with “MERRY STREETMAS”, which includes two photogenic displays and a range of Yuletide events, with all proceeds going to HKBCF. The collaboration was secured by Medialink, licensing agent for Sesame Street in China.

Another highlight of “MERRY STREETMAS” includes a new exhibition “Friendly Neighbours” by renowned British artist Jon Burgerman at “Gallery by the Harbour”, collaborating with WOAW GALLERY and Sesame Street. The renowned British-born, New York-based artist Jon Burgerman, put a playful twist on the classic characters and created more than 40 uniquely hand-drawn artworks and souvenirs for charity.

“MERRY STREETMAS” fundraising campaign and “Friendly Neighbours” exhibition will be held from 25 November 2022 to 2 January 2023. Everyone is invited on an amazing Christmas journey with Sesame Street!

Don’t get lost when Sesame Street meets Canton Road

Sesame Street gets in on the holiday fun this year with Harbour City. This most-loved kids’ TV show across generations has been on air for more than half a century and in more than 150 different countries. Their delightful furry friends have been in the heart of many.

Harbour City transported the entire “Sesame Street” to Canton Road, both the characters and the street itself! A little hint of Canton Road is secretly added to the street at the Atrium II of Gateway Arcade. Visitors will be greeted by life-sized main casts, and you will be stunned by the 2-metre-tall Big Bird. Standing in front of the huge screen with the signature street scenes playing, one will be completely immersed in the story.

Elmo, Cookie Monster, Big Bird, Bert and Ernie are all gathered here, and they are busy preparing for a street party. They have been working collectively and helping each other out with the resplendent decorations on the 4-meter-high twinkling Christmas tree. Can you give them a helping hand and count if there are sufficient gifts for all?

Stepping out of the classic Sesame Street setting, 30 furry-friends-themed Christmas trees line a hallway in Gateway Arcade to act as the perfect backdrop for fabulous holiday photos. Each tree is decorated with a simple touch of Elmo, Cookie Monster or Big Bird. Heartfelt thanks to the 30 generous donors who commit to support HKBCF and bring us these giggle-induced charity Christmas trees.

Another photogenic displays of “MERRY STREETMAS” is the winter getaway at the Atrium of Ocean Terminal! Kids will be full of cheer as they play in the snow, take snowy photos with Ernie, Bert and everyone, ski and skate along their favourite holiday tunes. The classic yellow school bus parks nearby. Let’s hop aboard and join Elmo and Zoe for an exciting day!

Art lovers rejoice! The famed British artist Jon Burgerman creates a fun twist of the classic Sesame Street’s characters

For avid art lovers in town, “Friendly Neighbours” Art Exhibition by Jon Burgerman jointly organized by WOAW Gallery is not to be missed. Taking inspiration from the much-loved childhood TV series Sesame Street, the British-born, New York-based contemporary artist, Jon Burgerman developed his first Sesame Street Collection and created over 40 humorous artworks that reference the main casts.

You may have spotted Burgerman’s playful works on social media, galleries, or tech gadget cases. This year, Harbour City is teaming up with this leading figure to add some festive magic to Hong Kong. The artist will be travelling all the way from New York to attend the opening ceremony here at Harbour City, to meet art enthusiasts in Hong Kong for the first time in three years.

“It’s been an honour to work with the iconic Sesame Street characters and introduce them into the world of my art. Sesame Street and the creations of Jim Henson have been influencing on my life since the early 1980’s, when I went to nursery school. The characters, songs and animations left an indelible mark on my psyche, showing me that kindness and fun is something that benefits from being shared”, said Jon Burgerman.
