For Spring/Summer 2022, Longchamp launches new styles of three collections

Longchamp x Charvet

Longchamp is elevating the humble tea towel to the status of an It bag! Except, in this case, humble is not quite the right word, since the tea towel in question is crafted by Charvet.

Founded in 1866 in Armentières, known since the Middle Ages as the textile capital of France, Charvet is the purveyor of the very finest French linen tea towels to the crème de la crème of hotels and restaurants. However, it is probably fair to say that none of these august establishments has ever transformed a Charvet tea towel into a tote bag – yet that is exactly what Longchamp has done with its latest collaboration. Following on from last year’s successful partnership with Filt shopping nets, two storied houses unite once more, in a celebration of French savoir-faire and art de vivre, to create the season’s must-have iteration of the iconic Le Pliage.

The Longchamp x Charvet white linen tote is bordered with a vertical red and blue stripe (note the quintessentially French bleu-blanc-rouge colour combo!) and finished with a flap, handle and shoulder strap in Longchamp’s emblematic Russian leather. This wonderfully light-hearted – not to mention lightweight and spacious – design is the perfect companion for relaxed summer days.

Inspired by the collaboration, other variations on Le Pliage come in white cotton with the familiar red check pattern of French bistro tea towels. Two top-handle bags with removable shoulder straps, a pouch with a handle, and a phone case on a leather lace comprise this seasonal capsule.

The Roseau – a new shape with buckets of style

Alongside the legendary Le Pliage®, the Roseau bag is a Longchamp icon, perhaps the ultimate symbol of its leather heritage and savoir-faire. A revolution when it was launched nearly three decades ago as an open tote secured with a bamboo toggle – the roseau of the name – the bag is regularly reinterpreted so that, as well as being an enduring emblem of elegance and authenticity, it remains at the cutting edge of fashion. That is more than ever the case for Spring/Summer 2022, when the latest iteration of the Roseau – a simple yet stylish bucket bag – captures the easy, insouciant spirit of the season.

Crafted from cowhide leather with a wonderfully supple feel and subtly grained texture, the small yet spacious Roseau bucket is made to be dangled lightly from one hand by its rounded handle or – thanks to its longer, removable strap – slung nonchalantly over the shoulder or across the body. A palette of timeless shades, including tan and black, enhances the authentic feel of this design, which is equally at home at a market in Provence as on the streets of Paris.

In addition to the leather Roseau bucket, an array of desirable variations are directly inspired by Longchamp’s Spring/Summer 2022 ready-to-wear collection – witness a model in cotton canvas embroidered with soft floral motifs like a Provençal tapestry, or another version in blue and white striped cotton, which evokes the spirit of the Mediterranean.

Two further variations play on Longchamp signatures: the first, in ecru cotton canvas with black grained cowhide trim, is printed with the name of the House on one side and the racehorse logo on the other; the second comes in black and taupe LGP jacquard canvas with black Russian leather trim. Both have a natural leather handle and trim, and a canvas shoulder strap.

Introducing the New ÉPURE Bucket Bag

Longchamp’s famous cuir de Russie – Russian leather – has long been a familiar feature of its collections, not least because it forms the flap and handles of the iconic Le Pliage bag. For Spring/Summer 2022, however, not content with playing a supporting role, this emblematic material steps into the spotlight and lends its firm structure and distinctive grain to the season’s must-have shape: the bucket bag from the new “ÉPURE” .

But this is not just any bucket: this “ÉPURE” bucket bag owns all the qualities to become the perfect summer basket bag. Firstly, its size: large enough for everyday essentials, but small and light enough to be dangled from the hand, wrist or elbow by its generously rounded handle.

Secondly, its colours: a palette of six shades, including three jewel brights – yellow, orange and green – alongside a gorgeous garnet red, a burnished brown and a beautiful jet black. Lastly, its (minimal) hardware: a pale gold-tone press-stud referencing the codes of Le Pliage, with which the otherwise open bag can be snapped shut, securing its contents and inside flat pocket. Alternatively, make like the models for Longchamp’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection, and style the “ÉPURE” bucket bag with a colourful silk scarf looped around its handle – two staples of French chic in one fabulous look!
