The first Spring/Summer collection led by Creative Director Rebekka Bay explores Marimekko’s theme for 2022: NEW FOLK. The collection references recurring elements and similarities in folk wear around the globe, in Spring/Summer 2022 focusing on BOTANICAL expressions seen in fashion and nature alike.

The botanical theme is brought to life especially through designer Antti Kekki’s abstract prints and motifs inspired by plants, foliage, and flowers. The volumes and details of the season’s silhouettes also reference the natural world with petal-like shapes and textural, uneven surfaces. In the color palette, vibrant chlorophyll greens, muted rosy hues, cornflower blues and pale calendula yellows all reflect nature’s mesmerizing splendor.

In addition to introducing newness, the collection will also feature familiar, recently updated Marimekko archetype silhouettes, including the A-line shape the brand has become famous for.

The season’s materials play with dense, papery cotton qualities. The crispness of cotton is balanced with sophisticated linen and Tencel blends, offering a lightness and airiness to the collection with crinkled and pleated qualities mimicking dried petals.

Home Collection Pre-Spring 2022

In 2022, Marimekko creates new intersections between the past, present, and future. At home, this is the perfect time for exploring new perspectives on living and novel print interpretations. Marimekko celebrates the start of spring by bringing the awakening nature into the home with new items for decoration, indoor gardening, as well as cooking, brewing coffee, and brunching with friends and family.

The first home collection of the year plays with pattern fusions, creating entirely new expressions of Marimekko by expanding the borders of the art of printmaking with playfulness and respect — meet the merged Maija Isola prints Unikko Ralli, Gabriel Nakki and Lokki Pergola. Unikko Ralli and Gabriel Nakki will adorn a range of the season’s Oiva ceramics, kitchen items and cozy textiles, and Lokki Pergola shines on a set of collectible mugs and an exquisite quilted throw.

New in the Oiva collection – botanical inspiration and novelties for the breakfast table

Planting the seed of new beginnings, the new pattern star of the season is Elokuun varjot (August shadows) by Maija Louekari. Inspired by the lush abundance of the designer’s own garden, the print will adorn many of the season’s textiles and Oiva items, including plates, mugs and a hanging planter to inspire your inner gardener.

For pre-spring 2022, Marimekko also introduces new Oiva items for coffee brewing and brunching in Armi Ratia’s iconic Tiiliskivi (brick). An elegant French press makes its debut in early spring, and an Oiva bowl and egg cups in Maija Louekari’s Alku (beginning) pattern complement the spring’s breakfast table moments.
